LET US FLY EVEN HIGHER..!!

A flight takes-off. 15 minutes of safe journey and a crisis takes place. What happened, how it happened is not important. And there is a reason why it becomes unimportant. What is most crucial is the fact that the pilots are dead. What next? How are the rest gonna land? With basic knowledge the crew members try their luck, but are they always gonna be lucky? And even if they do get to know what caused the problem, are they trained enough to rectify it? I guess not.!

Those who become a part of the flight crew are scanned at every level of their training. Only the best are selected. They have to be good looking, ever smiling & welcoming, tall (for a reason so in case of crisis they can reach out for equipments from a distance), with good communication skills, and an adorable personality. They are trained in the basics of working of planes, but most of their training is on developing their communication skills and grooming their personalities. Their training program is made in such a way that they save a lot of their time by learning only those things that they essentially need to perform while at work. And that is where the problems arise as their training is solely confined to that.

I don’t wish to divert the topic but I do feel the need of discussing a few other courses at this stage.

When we started with our course, we were taught subjects like Economics, Social Sciences, Sociology, and History. No…, I was never an Arts student. I had taken up Law and though these subjects look irrelevant, I cannot really deny that they have played an important role in forming my base as a law graduate. I would have surely become a lawyer even without the study these subjects, but might have ended up having an incomplete personality.

If you look at an Interior Designer, their job is very interesting and seems easy but do you know the amount of study it requires to become one?? They have to slog, and study various materials, their characteristics in detail. Imagine how boring can it get to study the various types of woods?? I mean why all this pain? You may make a beautiful piece of furniture for your bathroom, in an area which is most likely to be exposed to water, and that furniture is gonna be ruined within no time. Here, it requires an expert, to give you a wooden effect eliminating the drawbacks of that of a wood. Mere beauty is what an ordinary man can deliver. A designer knows what suits the best, making it even more beautiful and practical.

Let us go back to our crew right where we had left them. Don’t you think the training given to them is superficial and hardly helping them form a good base.? Just because for ages nobody questioned it, doesn’t make the training authentic. Mere beauty, mere presence of mind and common sense is not adequate. At times what you need is hardcore technical training.

Very strongly I feel that the crew members must be taught how to fly a plane. No knowledge ever goes waste. I shall pray that they are never forced to implement their knowledge, but every problem cannot be anticipated. I know it’s an extremely ambitious thought but why not? To think of it logically they are permanently on board and we cannot solely depend on pilots. In case of an emergency they should as a team take up the responsibly and rather than trying their luck be confident about getting every single soul.., back home.

It is perfectly alright if on one of the flights I don’t get good food, good people to see, these are negligible matters, what I want are people who are alert and smart enough in their areas of work to get me out of trouble. That is what I am paying them for, I am paying them for Good Service.! Such training will definitely enhance their personalities, making them perform even better.

I would any day choose a flight which has trained crew members rather than good looking ones. What would you? We get what we demand. Let’s not keep them mere waitrons. They have brains, and let’s channelize it to safeguard our future.

It’s gonna be hell expensive for the institutes to impart such training to the crew, and they might rebel initially. Probably even the ones applying might not like the idea; because the course is gonna be difficult. But that’s even better so we get only limited people applying who are genuinely interested being on board. You never know in this attempt, we might just get a good pilot from amongst these trainees to solve the shortage of pilots.

Its time we start thinking and demanding progress. Believe me guys; you will see a marked difference in the quality that airlines deliver.
